Nick Veasey
English artist Nick Veasey is best known for using the medical medium of X-ray technology to reveal the deepest layers of his subjects.
By fusing science and art Veasey shows the unseen side of everyday objects, creating intriguing scenes and adding a little humour along the way.
Among the best-known photographers working with X-ray imaging, Nick Veasey uses radiographic equipment to capture the hidden structures of objects. Veasey arrived at his medium almost by accident; he was asked to take an X-ray of a soda can while working as a photographer and designer on the set of a British TV show in 1996. After custom-building a machine out of industrial materials, he spontaneously X-rayed his sneakers and fell in love with the medium.
He began collaborating with scientists to perfect his style, gradually making a name for himself in the commercial world. Veasey’s portfolio of clients includes Nike, Levi’s, and Porsche, but he’s also caught the attention of the fine art world. In 2017, his 10-week retrospective at Fotografiska Stockholm drew more than 100,000 visitors. Veasey’s photographs are collected by museums around the world, including the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei.
